Chair of Trustees, Play England

To coincide with Play England’s Annual General Meeting tomorrow, we’re launching our new look website.

Now, it’s much easier to locate resources, like ‘Design for Play’ and ‘Managing Risk in Play Provision’, that are essential reading for anyone involved in designing play opportunities for children.

We’ve also themed our information, to help make it easier to find what you’re looking for. So, teachers can just click on our schools section to view all our resources that support schools in promoting Play.

Members are absolutely vital to Play England’s campaigns. So it’s now much easier to join – you just sign-up and pay online.

Our web developers, GreenNet, have been absolutely invaluable and we’d like to give them a big thank you for all their work, advice and support.

Members will also have the opportunity to shape the future strategic direction of the organisation at this year’s Annual General Meeting on Thursday 11 February.

Play England believes that every child should have the freedom to regularly play out actively and independently close to where they live. However there are many barriers to children’s play, particularly traffic danger, as well as the closure or neglect of playgrounds and public spaces due to funding cuts. This is a really serious problem and is affecting the health and wellbeing of our children.

It is heartening to hear the Children’s Commissioner call. With the right kind of support and training, parents and other community volunteers can make a real difference. This is why the work of Play England and our partner organisations is so crucial. As well as our membership drive, we’ve also launched our ‘Just Giving’ fundraising presence to encourage donations.

2016 will be another challenging year for Play England and all those in the play sector. But, working together we can have a far greater impact. Together, we can build and sustain a growing movement for children’s play.
